MONEY is the root of all evil!
The desire to get a quick buck through dealing in drugs has left two sisters not seeing eye-to-eye.
So bad is the blood between the Tsoriyo sisters as their feud ended up spilling into the courts’ corridors with the elder sister demanding her dues back through the small claims court.
The catalyst of their feud is a botched bronclear cough syrup deal which left Mary Tsoriyo counting her losses after failing to recover part of the US$560 she had lent to Beatah.
The cat came out of the bag when Mary made a small claims application against the younger sister, Beatah, claiming US$150 as arrears of her refund.
The pair appeared before Mutare magistrate, Mr Lazarus Murendo, who had no kind words for the sisters and said the law frowns on those who try to use the courts to sanitise their illegal dealings.
“Initially you ignored the law and gave your sister that money to buy the dangerous substance from South Africa so that you could smuggle it into the country and sell it to youths in our streets. Now that your illegal deal has hit a brick wall and you were duped of your money, you now realise the worthiness of the law and turn to the courts.
“Well, the courts do not look favourably at people like you. Had it not have been a botched deal, the bronclear would have found its way into the streets illegally. The courts frown upon people who conduct illegal transactions. That is criminal and you should be thankful that you are not behind bars,” he said as he dismissed the application.
Before dismissing the application, Mr Murendo advised the pair to be in good books with each other as they are a family.
This was after the sisters demonstrated their deep rooted differences in court.
“What has prompted me to come to court is that Beatah told me that I should not ask for my money because we are siblings. It is not fair Your Worship because the money was mine and I need to use it too. It has been long since I gave her that money, yet she acts like I am the one who owes her. “She is the one who travelled to South Africa where she was duped by a runner there. She no longer wants to pay what is due to me,” said Mary.
Beatah confirmed that she lost the money to a runner she named as Ribon Makandiwa in court.
She said the runner converted the money into his own use instead of buying the bronclear for them.
