THE saying that blood is thicker than water probably holds no significance for a Marange man after he was dragged to Mutare Civil Court by his sibling for failing to pay back the money he owes her.

Kuziva Banga from Makota Village under Chief Marange, appeared before Mutare magistrate, Mr Xavier Chipato, after failing to pay back US$1 394 to his sister, Violet Banga.

Violet gave Kuziva the money to buy a beast that was supposed to be used for a ritual ceremony.

Kuziva admitted that he had converted the money to his personal use.

He proposed to make a payment plan in instalments as he could not repay it all at once.

“Your Worship, I admit owing her the money. I will pay it back,” he said.

Kuziva said he was disappointed with his sister for bringing the matter before the court when they had an agreement that he would fully pay her up by December 30, 2021.

“He is lying,” charged his sister. “He just committed by word of mouth and did not put it in writing.”

Violet also accused her brother of harassing her whenever she gets to his place asking about the money.

She added: “He should have properly asked for money if he wanted some and not to dupe me. I desperately need the beast I asked him to buy for me. It is frustrating that he keeps pushing the days. I think he wants me to die before he pays back.”

Kuziva pleaded with the court for more time to pay up the money.

However, Mr Chipato ordered him to pay back the money by December 30.

“If he does not pay, his property will be attached and sold to raise the money,” ruled Mr Chipato.
