AT least 80 people living with disabilities in Makoni and Mutare districts are set to benefit from projects aimed at establishing self-reliance and improve their welfare.

The targeted beneficiaries are already undergoing training to equip them with the necessary skills in floor polish, bleach and beverages making.

The projects are being spearheaded by Tariro Foundation.

Tariro Foundation community engagement officer Ms Molline Chipoyi said they are providing assistance on creating and managing sustainable and profitable business models for people with disabilities.

“This programme operates as a revolving fund assisting people with disabilities with capital to start profitable businesses. They return the money over a period of time so that others can benefit.

“We will provide them with the technical support. Our objective is to have people with disabilities generate income for themselves and fend for their families,” said Ms Chipoyi.

She said this will reduce the dependency syndrome among people living with disabilities and take some of them off the streets.
