A Mutare man is not flattered by the attention he gets from his wife and has said she is obsessed with him.

The cross-border trader, Samson Nyangondoma accused his wife, Neria Chikuni, of failing to give him any breathing space.

He claimed that Chikuni even follows him to South Africa when he is away on business.

This emerged when Chikuni dragged Nyangondoma to Mutare Civil Court seeking a protection order.

She accused her husband of constantly assaulting and insulting her, as well as barring her from accompanying him to South Africa.

But Nyangondoma shot back.

“I do not have any time to unwind. She wants every second of my time and I am just fed up with her obsessiveness. She wants to be by my side all the time, yet I need my space to do my own things,” said Nyangondoma.

“If I travel to South Africa and leave her home with the children, she takes the money meant for the family’s upkeep and follow me to the neighbouring country without informing me.

“She should just stay at home, Your Worship. I take care of her and the children very well. Our neighbours envy our lifestyle but she is still not satisfied,” he said.

Chikuni admitted that she always wants to be with her husband, indicating that she is head over heels in love with him.

She also admitted that Nyangondoma is a caring husband who provides for his family.

“I always want to be with him because he is my husband. Why should I be barred from accompanying him to South Africa? We all have a duty to provide for the family because we are a couple. He loses his temper when I follow him to South Africa, yet I have every right to follow him wherever he goes,” she explained.

The couple appeared before Mutare magistrate, Ms Nyasha Kuture, last week on Thursday.

Ms Kuture granted the protection order to Chikuni. It bars Nyangondoma from assaulting or insulting his wife.

The court also advised the couple to seek marital counselling to iron out the contentious issue on their joint visits to South Africa.
