THREE suspected shoplifters who descended on three supermarkets in Rusape, stealing an assortment of items, ran out of luck when they were finally apprehended in TM Pick ‘N’ Pay with stolen goods stashed in-between their legs.

The three — Joyce Nduna (30), Noreen Pundo (50) and Patience Mutepfa (37) —were chauffeured by Tanyaradzwa Chigumira (30) from Mutare to Rusape on a shoplifting mission.

This was the second time that the women had pounced on the supermarket.

The first incident happened on November 5, 2019 around 12pm.

The suspects allegedly approached TM Supermarket where they stole counter books, reams of bond paper and 3kg of beef.

It was when the employees were checking their daily closing stocks and daily proceedings on the CCTV that they discovered that the three women took the goods from the shelves and put them in-between their legs and sneaked out without paying.

On November 12, the three women again hired Chigumira to drive them to Rusape. They proceeded to SIMRAC Supermarket where they stole 12 litres of cooking oil and tinned beef valued at $359,87.

The three then proceeded to N Richards and stole 300g of kapenta fish valued at $316,35 and went away unnoticed.

From N. Richards they proceede to TM Supermarket, where their luck finally ran out.

Upon entering the shop they were detected by Givemore Sakwinje, the security guard who was on duty at the entrance point.

Sakwinje closely monitored the trio’s movements and observed that they were the same women who had been previously captured on   CCTV.

The three were searched as they exited the shop and were found with reams of bond paper hidden in-between their legs. The women led Sakwinje to their motor vehicle carrying goods that had been shoplifted from SIMRAC and N. Richards.

Sakwinje interviewed the three who admitted stealing from the shop on November 5.

They offered to pay the full value of $3 216 for the shoplifted goods.

Sakwinje subsequently  alerted N. Richards and SIMRAC, who also checked on their CCTVs and observed that the three women used the same modus operandi to steal from their shops.

They recovered all their goods.
