Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister, Senator Monica Mutsvangwa last week visited the triplets she adopted in Marange and showered them with gifts.

Senator Mutsvangwa and her colleagues donated more than US$3 000 towards the upkeep of the three girls who are almost three years old now.

In 2020, the triplets’ mother escaped from South Africa where she had been staying with her husband after he had tried to sell the then newborn babies.

Soon after the girls’ arrival into the country, Senator Mutsvangwa pledged that she would assist in taking care of them.

Immediately after that, Senator Mutsvangwa drilled a borehole and donated money and groceries towards the upkeep of the children and has been consistent in providing resources for them.
Speaking last week after making her latest donation, Senator Mutsvangwa said the visit was in line with the promises she made in 2020 that she would assist in taking care of the triplets.

“We want their story to be heard. When they grow up, they should know that their mother endured a lot of hardships to save their lives. Their father wanted to sell them in South Africa,” she said.

She said she will always fulfil her undertaking of looking after the children.

“We will never leave these children, even if our pockets fail us,” she said.

The triplets’ mother, Ms Olinda Maphosa thanked Senator Mutsvangwa and her colleagues for the donations.

“I want to thank Senator Mutsvangwa for the love she has showed us since my return to Zimbabwe with my children. Today, these three kids are healthy and happy because of her support,” she said.

She said the father of the triplets only contacted her in 2020 after the media had captured her story.

“He was accusing me of having sold him out to the Government and he threatened to deal with me. He has not contacted me ever since or helped in taking care of the children. Had it not been for Senator Mutsvangwa, I think my children would have been dead by now due to hunger,” she said.
