A MWEYA MUTSVENE High School bursar recently appeared in court for allegedly converting school fees for one of the pupils at the school to his own use.

The bursar, Clever Manyadza, appeared before Mutare provincial magistrate, Mr Mr Langton Carter facing fraud charges as defined in Section 136 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, Chapter 9:23.

He was remanded out of custody to September 26.

Prosecuting, Mr Thurstone Mubvumbi said Manyadza received US$153 from an Upper Six pupil, Shamiso Gonzo, for the payment of her second term fees, but failed to give her a receipt.

When Gonzo asked for her receipt, Manyadza allegedly gave her a forged one.

“On August 12, Manyadza gave Gonzo a forged receipt which he had inscribed her name in capital letters. The receipt showed that it was once written in small letters with a different hand writing.

“The amount paid was written in local currency although Gonzo had given him US$153,” said Mr Mubvumbi.

A report was made to the police, thereby leading to Manyadza’s arrest.

The forged receipt was recovered.
