BEING a proud holder of a law degree from a prestigious South African university has not stopped Rusape born and bred Michelle Sakarombe from pursuing and excelling in her modelling career.

Born Tafadzwa Michelle Sakarombe 23 years ago, the beauty with brains did the country proud when she was among a bevy of beauties who participated at the just-ended Soweto Fashion Week in South Africa.

Aimed at promoting local and international designers’ talents, the Soweto Fashion Week is an annual three-day show and was held from May 24 to 28.

To date, Michelle who is based in Johannesburg has showcased her catwalk skills at popular fashion shows like the Mamelodi Fashion Week, Tswane Fashion Festivals and the just-ended Soweto Fashion Week where designers from across the globe were showcasing their winter collections.

In an interview with The Weekender, Michelle said she felt awesome to be representing the country in a foreign nation and that she would not stop until she raises the Zimbabwean flag even higher internationally.

Modelling was not an inborn thing for Michelle as she only ventured into professional cat walking last year after her friends pressured her into joining.

“After too much pressure, I applied with Steele Models online and when I was offered the chance, the road has been smooth till now,” said the beauty.

She said the neighbouring country has a diverse platform for all models, be they tall short, stout or slender as long as one has the passion and talent to pursue their modelling career, something that the local modelling industry has to adopt for it to excel.

“The only challenge that I am facing at the moment is the language barrier as most South African nationals prefer using their indigenous languages to English. However, the moment I tell them that I am foreign, they adjust and start using English.

“If you love something, you should go for it no matter how long it takes. It is all about your dreams, your passion and hard work. Nothing comes while you are chilling at home. You have to go out there and make it happen for yourself,” she advised upcoming models.
