AS I look back into my life today, I regret all the opportunities I missed.

I regret all the time wasted.

I regret all the vain chases against the wind I made.

I thought I was happening, I thought was everyone’s wannabe.

I also looked down on all the bookworms, those who were the opportunist, thinking they were so backwards .

However, as I roll down memory lane, I wish I were more like them.

At least they harbour no regrets.

At least their lives are going smoothly.

The story remains unpacked from my end.

“I now look up to those I looked down on.

How I wish I focused on all the right things,’ says a 29-year-old unemployed man.

All his fellow mates are graduates and employed.

Some have gone overseas via scholarships.

Sadly, he lies home, all day regretting and drowning in his own sorrows.

High school is once lived, once you get the opportunity, use it to the fullest.

Explore yourself and discover yourself, who you are as an individual.

Waste no day, waste no resource and grasp all opportunities.

Be a someone not a nobody.

Leave a legacy that will inspire upcoming generations.

Find the purpose that makes you finish 365 days a year without fail.

Don’t focus on stuff that will flock at you in the near future. Worry about your future now.

Focus on building your future.

As they say, failure to prepare is preparation to fail.

Therefore, I say to you make hay while the sun still shines.

In Shona, we say: “Simbi inorohwa ichapisa.”
