A SELF-styled youthful Dangamvura-based prophet jumped into a sewage pool along the heavily polluted Sakubva River on Tuesday morning, running away from two police officers who were hot on his heels to arrest him on attempted rape charges.

Upon realising that the cops were gaining on him, Trust Chiriko (30) took a dive into the raw sewage and dared the officers to jump into the effluent if they were determined to arrest him.

Manicaland police spokesman, Inspector Tavhiringwa Kakohwa, said one of the officers, Constable Mhara, got into the pond and surprised the suspect, who quickly got out and took to his heels, again, on the other side of the pool.

“Another chase occurred for about 2 km along the river bank. Due to exhaustion the prophet later gathered some stones which he used to attack Cst Mhara who was giving chase.

“He tried to stone the police officer but to no avail till he was subsequently arrested and taken to Dangamvura Police Station,” said Insp Kakohwa.

Chiriko of House Number 5305 Area 3 Dangamvura is facing sexual abuse charges stemming from an incident that happened at his shrine on Sunday in which he inserted his fingers in the private parts of a congregate he was praying for.

The complainant reported the case the following day on Monday at Dangamvura Police Station under reference Number 2947723.
On Tuesday morning the prophet walked past a road block that was being manned by constables Mhara, Munhungei and Matsvazuva near the Manicaland Provincial Heroes Acre and one of the cops positively identified him as a wanted suspect.

“We told him to stop but he refused and started running. We abandoned the block and chased the suspect till we apprehended him. At Sakubva River he jumped into a pool with raw sewage.

I told him to come out but he refused saying he did not want to be arrested. There was nothing I could do and so I got into the sewage but the suspect quickly got out and fled. I gave chase and later arrested him,” said Cst Mhara.
