CHILDREN’S right to education must always be upheld and parents or guardians must play a leading role in ensuring that this is fulfilled, the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has said.

This has seen the Ministry rolling out a programme to engage communities in Manicaland Province to increase their awareness on the importance of access to education for children.

Manicaland Provincial Education Director (PED) Mr Edward Shumba said it is important for parents to prioritise funding their children’s education.

“We are going out on a programme to raise awareness in communities of the right of children to education. We want to ensure that children are in school.

“There may be challenges like school fees payment, but if we work together as Government, schools, School Development Committees, the local leadership and other stakeholders then we can achieve our goals and guarantee the education of our children,” said Mr Shumba.

Mr Shumba said during the programme, which will end next week, children without birth certificates will be assisted to get the important document.
