Dear Tete Barbara —
I am a young girl aged 20 struggling to survive because I was born in a very poor family. I now feel that the only solution is marriage since I am just at home doing nothing after failing my Ordinary Level.

There is a guy who wants to marry me but I do not love him at all. He is ugly and older but my circumstances are pushing me into his arms.

At least he has a job and I can be in a position to help my poor family.

Tete Barbara Responds
My Dear, you should be wise and please put on your thinking cap. Poverty is not reason enough for you to give away your life before you have even begun living.

At 20, you are still very young and very much in a position to change your destiny but you must be cautious, patient and resilient.

Do not give in to the pressures of life too easily because many challenges will. You can not marry a man you do not love because you feel that he can provide some sort of security for you.

Firstly, it is torturing yourself and worse still that is unfair to the man you would have deceived into marrying you.

You can try to find odd jobs or small income generating projects to help make some extra money.

Your future is in your hands don’t place it in any other person’s hands, theirs are already filled with their own. Speak to other people and find out how they began small businesses or found jobs.

Be Courageous!
