ABOUT 200 vulnerable women in Ward Five, Chipinge urban have been equipped with skills to start their own businesses.

The programme is the brainchild of Chipinge Business and Residents Trust (CBRET) aimed at transforming the lives of women in the town.

The move is also meant to curb gender-based violence by reducing women’s dependence on men.

CBRET has sourced chicks to benefit 200 women.

CBRET coordinator Advocate Amato Rungano said the programme will also capacitate vulnerable women in the community to enhance their livelihoods in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Our goal is to empower women so that they become self reliant through income generating projects. We are also urging them to actively participate in Government programmes, devolution and local authority consultative meetings,” said Advocate Rungano.
