POLICE in Chipinge this week busted three notorious burglars who were using a Honda Fit to terrorise residents through robberies.

In a spat of robberies that had rocked the town over the past few months, property worth $500 000 had been stolen.

Chipinge Criminal Investigations Department’s spokesperson, Detective Assistant Inspector Vincent Chikuvadze confirmed the arrest of Norman Charuma (28), Collen Mashava (42) and Ruzai Mate (38) on Tuesday.

Detective Assistant Inspector Chikuvadze said the arrest of the trio brought a sigh of relief to Chipinge residents and business people.

“I can confirm the arrest of the trio in connection with a spat of robberies that had rocked the town over the past few months. The suspects are now helping police with investigations.

“The recovered property include sofas, microphones, curtains, asbestos sheets, generators, carpets, metal plates and assorted groceries,” he said.

Detective Assistant Inspector Chikuvadze said on August 9, police received a tip-off that the accused persons were selling some of the stolen property. They swiftly reacted to the tip-off and arrested the trio in Gaza high-density suburb.

“The detectives managed to recover some of the stolen property which was hidden in different places. Some of the complainants who positively identified their stolen property include Kumbirai Nyakuchena, Philimon Moyana and Greater Mtsira,” he said.

Detective Assistant Inspector Chikuvadze also urged members of the public to desist from buying stolen property as it is an offence.
