THE regular interaction between the police and the media is strategic and key in driving the country’s development agenda as it serves to the good of the public.

This was said by national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi during a tour of The Manica Post and Diamond FM offices to familiarise with the operations of the newspaper and radio station’s operations this afternoon.

He said the two are interdependent on each other as the media connects law enforcement agents with communities and other stakeholders.

By disseminating information timesously through reportage, Assistant Commissioner Nyathi added, the media also plays an important role in preventing and combating crime.

Assistant Commissioner said that fruitful cooperation has seen the two entities join hands in conducting campaigns that sensitise communities on topical and pertinent issues.

“The police and the media have always worked together very well and continue to do so as it is bears fruit. As a force, we value the critical role the media plays as a stakeholder because whenever we want to reach out to raise community awareness on road traffic safety, safety during the festive season and child marriages among others, for example, we always engage the media to carry and relay the message,” said Assistant Commissioner Nyathi.

He added that the media is particularly instrumental for the police to engage with other stakeholders and reach out to a wider audience during the discharge of their duties.
