FUEL concern Petrotrade last week handed over a new classroom block worth US$150 000 to Singizi Secondary School in Chipinge as part of efforts to revive schools that were damaged by last year’s devastating Cyclone Idai.

Officially opening the block last Thursday, Energy and Power Development Minister Zhemu Soda said the gesture is a result of President Mnangagwa’s call for the corporate world to come on board and help in rehabilitating damaged infrastructure.

“Petrotrade positively responded to President Mnangagwa’s appeal for corporates to come on board and help rehabilitate infrastructure damaged by Cyclone Idai in Chipinge and Chimanimani districts,” he said.

Speaking at the same occasion, the Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Dr Ellen Gwaradzimba applauded Petrotrade for constructing the state-of-the-art classroom block.

“I want to thank development partners who came on board to assist us after the unfortunate incident of Cyclone Idai.

“Education is a priority in achieving Vision 2030. Let us embrace education as this will help our community in many ways. I applaud Petrotrade for a job well done,” said Dr Gwaradzimba.

Acting Petrotrade chief executive officer, Mr Gift Ncube said the donation of the classroom block is a fulfilment of President Mnangagwa’s call for corporates to partner Government in restoring damaged infrastructure.

Meanwhile, Chipinge Rural District Council also handed over furniture bought using devolution funds to the school.

It availed 40 chairs and 40 tables for the students, as well as two desks and chairs for the teachers.
