A Mutare woman whose neighbour plays loud music at night has approached the courts for intervention.

Sarah Madungwe dragged her neighbour, Tatenda Masakure (28) to Mutare Civil Court seeking a peace order.

She said her countless pleas for Masakure to lower his volume have fallen on deaf ears.

Madungwe also said at one time, Masakure even suggested that she should relocate to the leafy suburb of Murambi if she was fed up with his noise.

“His music is disturbing my children’s night studies. They are also unable to watch the television as the noise shakes the walls. The size of his speakers are best for a Public Address system.

“Everyone in our area, including his own father, is fed up with Masakure’s noise. At one time, Masakure’s father approached my husband to complain about his son’s noise,” said Madungwe.

“I have tried to talk to him over the issue on several occasions, but he does not listen. At one time, he told me to relocate to Murambi if I want a serene environment. When he is drunk he hurls unprintable words to us,” said Madungwe.

She also added that her husband is diabetic, while she is hypertensive, adding that they are badly affected by Masakure’s noise and insults.

Masakure has also allegedly threatened to burn Madungwe’s house.

In response, Masakure said he only plays loud music when drunk.

“I am not opposing her peace order application, but I never mention her name when I shout. I will be drunk and having fun at my house when I play loud music. I have since sold the speakers,” he said.

Mr Xavier Chipato, the magistrate who was hearing the case, granted the peace order in Madungwe’s favour.

The order bars Masakure from harassing and insulting his neighbours as well as making noise.

Madungwe was advised to report to the nearest police station if Masakure breaches the peace order.
