Today l am writing on pollution and the ecological problems associated with it.
Any undesirable physical,chemical or biological changes caused to land, water, air and other natural resources are termed as pollution.
Pollution brings about several ecological problems and make life difficult for human beings.
Although there are various causes for pollution, man himself is the major cause.
Air pollution is due to industrial and automobile exhaust fumes.
These contain carbon-dioxide, sulphur dioxide and oxides of nitrogen.
One ecological problem caused by these gases is that they render the air unfit for breathing, leading to problems such as cancer.
Plants are unable to synthesise food in polluted air.
The protective ozone layer is also affected, thereby exposing human beings and animals to radio-active rays.
Land pollution is due to accumulation of rubbish, plastics, glass and porcelain.
The use of excess chemical fertilisers, insecticides and pesticides pollute both land and water.
They lead to many deadly contagious diseases.
Oil that leaks into the ocean and other water bodies affect marine life — both marine fauna and flora.
