An ODZI man has been brought before the Mutare Magistrate’s Court for stealing cattle in Chief Makoni’s area.

David Kashoti Marasademo pleaded guilty when he appeared before the Mutare Magistrate, Ms Prisca Manhibi and he was remanded in custody.

Marasademo was charged with two counts of stock theft as defined in Section 114 of the Criminal Law and (Codification and Reform) Act, Chapter 9:3.

Ms Sandra Mlambo prosecuted.

The court heard that on the first count, Marasademo allegedly set his traps in a nearby bush under the pretense that he wanted to hunt for wild animals.

He, however, caught and slaughtered Benjamin Nyamugure’s heifer.

According to Nyamugure, he discovered the crime when he went to the pastures to look for his heifer.

“I came across Marasademo’s bag at the scene of the crime, the beast’s carcass was there, with some body parts missing,” said Nyamugure.

However, efforts to locate Marasademo were futile.

On the second count, the accused repeated the same offense as he caught and slaughtered Rose Bandura’s calf.

Bandura was alerted that Marasademo was selling meat to other villagers under the pretense that it was game meat.

Bandura approached the accused as a customer and probed him on the origins of the meat.

Marasademo admitted to slaughtering the complainant’s calf. Bandura then seized three of the calf’s legs.

Marasademo’s actions robbed his victims of at least US$500.
