PARENTS who have their children at Mutare Boys High School panicked as some of the Ordinary Level students were told they were not going to receive their results after allegations of cheating.

Reports from the school are that seven students were caught with answers written on pieces of paper.

The number rose to 40.

The school head Mr Tendayi Gwashu could not comment but referred The Manica Post to ZIMSEC and the provincial education director Mr Edward Shumba who confirmed the developments and said pending the outcome of the investigations, the results would remain withheld.

Mr Shumba said the implicated students had been made aware that their results would not be released though he could not confirm the number of students involved.

“This is a country-wide thing, According to an investigation conducted by ZIMSEC, Mutare Boys High School is also among the schools with students who were caught cheating. I do not have the actual number of students who were caught cheating.

“I urge students to desist from cheating and work hard. Those students who were caught cheating, will not receive their results,” he said.

Parents who spoke to this publication said they were devastated after spending money for four years.

“I was told that my son was among the 40 students who were caught cheating and that he is not going to receive his Ordinary-Level results. As a parent, I am devastated and there are rumours that they will not be allowed to sit for any exam for the next seven years.

“I had invested in my son but all is now going down the drain,” she said.

Another parent said: “I heard that there were allegations of exam cheating at Mutare Boys High School. I had to go to the school and inquire since my son is also at Mutare Boys High. I was relieved when I was told that he was not part of the students that cheated.”

Apart from the alleged exam leakage, Mr Shumba expressed satisfaction at the general performance by schools in the province during the A-Level exams.

ZIMSEC public relations manager Mrs Nicky Dlamini could not be reached for comment.
