A 42-YEAR-OLD Chimanimani man who had unleashed a reign of terror on fellow residents, stealing goods worth thousands of dollars in separate incidents, last week appeared in court facing 13 counts of theft.

Philemon Makasi of no fixed aboard appeared before Chipinge magistrate, Mrs Elizabeth Hanzi.

He is facing charges of theft and unlawful entry.

He pleaded guilty to all the charges, and will be back in court on January 24th for sentencing.

Prosecuting, Mr Timothy Katsande said sometime between September and November last year, Makasi committed a spate of thefts.

He would break into people’s houses and steal valuable property.

“In the first two counts, Makasi unlawfully entered into Ms Rumbidzai Dhliwayo’s house and stole a cellphone and tinned fish. He went to Church of God Prophesy offices and stole stationery the same day.

“In another count, Makasi went to Nenohwe Village and broke into Mr Weeds Chibochwa’s house and stole three cellphones, three dressed chickens, apples, yoghurt, sweets and snacks,” he said.

Mr Katsande said on October 23 Makasi broke into Mr Marlvin King’s house and stole various goods and some money.

“At Mr King’s house, Makasi stole US$2 000 and two cellphones. On another day, he went to Nyanyadzi Rural Hospital where he stole laptops and cellphones worth thousands of dollars,” said Mr Katsande.

He said Makasi also went to Makatoma Village which falls under Chief Muusha and stole cellphones and electrical gadgets belonging to different people.

Nothing was recovered.
