A AVENGING spirit is threatening to wipe out an entire clan of a Nyanga family if it is not appeased.

The spirit of Josphat Mukunje is manifesting on three minor girls from the same family, while alleging that the girls’ grandfather, Moses Muusha murdered Mukunje in Chipinge two decades ago.

This has prompted the family to seek counsel before acting Chief Saunyama’s court, as the girls have all stopped going to school because of their violent manifestations.

According to family members, when the spirit manifests on any of the girls, they start banging their heads on the ground, thereby endangering their lives.

As a result, the orphaned girls who are in the custody of their grandmother are always in chains so that they do not injure themselves during their daily manifestations.

The matter appeared before acting Chief Saunyama’s court recently where it was adjourned to May 26.

Hailing from Chipinge, the Muusha family has stayed in Nyanga for decades, after Moses Muusha migrated to Nyanga in search of greener pastures.

However, the avenging spirit alleges that Muusha relocated to Nyanga while running away from his sins in Chipinge.

When they appeared in court, Moses Muusha was adamant that his granddaughters were faking the manifestations.

He claimed that since he has three wives, he believes that the first wife, the trio’s grandmother is working in cohorts with her grandchildren to lure him back to her.

“I never killed anyone and I have never known anyone named Josphat Mukunje. I migrated from Chipinge because I wanted greener pastures, not because I was running away from a murder. This is all lies and everything that happened today was stage managed. These girls are being used by their grandmother to try and trap me, but that will not work,” he said.

However, this did not go down well with the late Mukunje whose spirit started manifesting on MaxJane, while speaking in fluent Ndau.

The family alleged that the teenager has never been to Chipinge and for her to speak that well in Ndau, was a shocker.

Born and bred in Nyanga where Hwesa is spoken, MaxJane spoke in deep Ndau and gave Moses the two-month ultimatum.

“Do you want to dare me Moses? I give your family two months only to either appease my family or risk being wiped out as a family. There will be no trace of the Muusha family in Nyanga in a year if you continue declining that you killed me in Chipinge.

“You relocated to Nyanga from Chipinge because people were labelling you a murderer. You killed me over money and now you have to look for my family in Chipinge, otherwise you will face my wrath,” he said.

While the spirit manifested, MaxJane slithered like a snake while banging her head on the ground and nearby objects.
Family members had to refrain her.

In an interview, the girls’ grandmother, Tambudzai Muusha, said she does not know what to do with the girls as their grandfather is refusing to sort the mess by appeasing the avenging spirit.

“The spirit has for months been demanding that Moses look for Mukunje’s family and appease his death, but Moses will not hear of it because it is not affecting him directly. He does not care about his grandchildren because he has several others and all we can do is wait until he realises that the children need help.

“Their parents are all dead and I am the one looking after them. I do not know why he would think that we are trying to trick him so that he comes back to me. You all heard MaxJane speaking in Ndau. She has never been to Chipinge and all she knows is Hwesa. Surely, the manifestations cannot be stage managed,” said the elderly woman.
