MANY students and their relatives today gathered at the Zimbabwe Open University (ZOU) centre in Mutare to celebrate their virtual graduation, while a selected few outstanding students had the opportunity to be capped by President Mnangagwa in Harare.

The university resorted to abiding by the Covid-19 safety measures to hold this year’s graduation ceremony at various centres across the country, while allowing only students attaining doctorates, masters and those getting book prizes to attend in person the main event at the Hatcliffe Campus.

Speaking during the virtual 20th graduation ceremony held in Mutare, Dr Steven Mwenje urged the graduating students to be innovative and contribute to the country’s development through National Development Strategy (NDS1) in pursuit of Vision 2030.

“Everyone wants to live on top of the mountain, but all the growth and happiness is experienced when you are climbing the mountain. The happiness is achieved as you grow. What I am trying to say is that all the experience that you acquired from the beginning of your degree up to today is what is important as it builds you.

“Now that you are on top of the mountain where will you go? You have acquired knowledge and skills which have been added to what you knew before. Let us go into  society and showcase what we have benefited from the experience we obtained from our academics. Let’s put the new ideas into practice and be innovative in line with the National Development Strategy (NDS1),” he added.
