ZIMBABWE needs to be climate-proofed through coming up with adaptation options for each sector such as the Pfumvudza/Intwasa programme in agriculture.

In an interview during a climate change and migration workshop organised by International Organisation for Migration (IOM) recently, the principal climate change adaptation officer in the Climate Change Management Department, Mr Benjamin Mandevere, said: “As Zimbabwe, we are looking at various sectors in order to come up with adaptation options for each sector so that it is climate-proofed. The Pfumvudza/Intwasa programme in the agriculture sector is an ideal adaptation option meant to ensure that we are food secure.

“In other sectors such as industry and transport, we should ensure that infrastructure is developed through, for instance, building roads, so that we will be in a better position when disasters like Cyclone Idai strike,” he said.

Climate change has been identified as a leading human and environmental crisis of the 21st Century.
