A 65-YEAR-OLD man died after he was injected with an unknown poisonous substance with a syringe for allegedly refusing to pay a debt, while a 36-year-old man was fatally head-butted by a fellow imbiber whom he had accused of gossiping about him in two separate murder incidents that happened in Nyanga and Chimanimani respectively.

Both incidents happened at drinking spots after the suspects and the victims had one too many on New Year’s Day.

In the first incident that happened at Nyamukondeza Business Centre in Chief Saunyama’s area, the suspect, Saymore Chirinda (18) asked for his money from the now late Charles Marwei, but he did not cooperate.

Chirinda hit Marwei on the forehead with a fist and he fell down.

“Chirinda produced a syringe which contained an unknown substance and injected Marwei on both hands. A police report was made leading to Chirinda’s arrest. Marwei was taken to Nyanga District Hospital where he was admitted. He died on January 2,” said Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Norbert Muzondo.

In another incident, which happened at Nhandaro Bottle Store at Machongwe Business Centre in Chimanimani, the now late Wonder Munotsiwa confronted Blessing Nyabowa, accusing him of gossiping about him.

“Munotsiwa slapped Nyabowa who fell down and stood up before the two started wrestling. Nyabowa head-butted Munotsiwa twice on the forehead and the latter fell down and became unconscious. Nyabowa vanished from the scene.

“The manager of Nhandaro Bottle Store, Mr Right Muzama (43) woke up Munotsiwa after he had gained consciousness. Munotsiwa who was still in a state of confusion went outside the bottle store and sat on the bench. He fell unconscious again.

“A Good Samaritan called Munotsiwa’s brother, Mr Innocent Munotsiwa who took him to Mutambara Mission Hospital. He was transferred to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital where he died upon admission. Innocent made a report to the police leading to Nyabowa’s arrest.

“We continue to urge people, imbibers included, to solve disputes amicably by seeking advice from third parties, rather than resorting to violence which often leads to death. These deaths could have been avoided had the involved parties sat down and settled their differences maturely and peacefully. We will, however, not hesitate to arrest perpetrators who put the law into their hands,” said Inspector Muzondo.
