THE Meteorological Services Department (MSD) has warned of thunderstorms with considerable impact across the country from yesterday (Sunday) until Friday, starting in Manicaland, Masvingo, Matabeleland South and Bulawayo Metropolitan provinces.
In a statement issued in conjunction with the Department of Civil Protection, the MSD said the thunderstorms will be accompanied by strong winds, lightning, hailstorms and localised heavier rains of around 20mm.
The MSD urged people to take safety precautions which include installing surge protectors and lightning conductors as well as fixing any leakages during this period.
“Thunderstorms will be experienced countrywide until Friday, starting in Manicland, Masvingo, Matabeleland South and Bulawayo Metropolitan provinces. Fallen trees, damaged roofs and loose debris must be watched out for. Where possible, people must stay indoors during this period. Do not use electrical appliances as these and wi-fi routers are also vulnerable to lightning strikes” said the MSD.
The MSD urged people to take protective measures for both livestock and crops by covering the latter to protect them from the likelihood of being damaged by hailstorms.
