THE reign of terror for cattle rustlers who were giving villagers and famers in Nyazura and surrounding areas sleepless nights came to an end after police nabbed three suspects recently.
Police, working with the traditional leadership and local communities, are stepping up efforts to tackle stock theft which has become a menace in Manicland Province.
Manicaland provincial police spokesperson Inspector Nobert Muzondo confirmed the arrest of Ignatious Kubika (46), Steven Tangwena (27) both of Hobhouse and George Kazozo of Nyazura.
He said beef weighing about 8okg was recovered upon the suspects’ arrest.
“Police reacted swiftly after receiving a tip-off that the trio was selling meat in Chikanga whose source was suspicious. Investigations led to the arrest of the three for cattle rustling. Stock theft had become rampant in the Chipembere area near Nyazura and surrounding plots.
“During the period between October 3 and 18, 10 cattle were stolen using the same modus operandi. The suspects raided cattle pens at night and made good their escape with at least two beasts,” said Inspector Muzondo.
Inspector Muzondo commended the public for being whistleblowers.
He urged villages and farmers to be vigilant and take measures to ensure that their livestock is protected from theft.
