VILLAGERS in the Chipindirwe area of Marange in Mutare West have been warned to stay vigilant after stray buffaloes were spotted in the vicinity.

The Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (Zimparks) confirmed receiving a report of the stray buffaloes, which are considered as dangerous game.

It could not immediately be established where the buffaloes came from or how many they were and no casualties or damage to property have been reported so far.

In a statement this afternoon, Zimparks said they are trekking the animals to take the necessary corrective measures to prevent them from endangering people’s lives.

“Zimparks is informing you that we have just received a stray buffaloes report in Chipindirwe area of Marange. Communities are encouraged to mimimise movements in thickets and tall grasses during these high alert moments.

“The most vulnerable groups include pupils, the elderly and people with disabilities. As usual, we are working with the Mutare District Development Co-ordinator’s office, traditional leadership and Mutare Rural District Council to mobilise resources so that our team can attend to and mitigate this plight. If you find yourself near these dangerous animals, climb up a tree for safety,” said Zimparks.

According to the Parks and Wildlife Act Chapter 20:14, buffaloes are classified as dangerous game.
