POLICE in Chipinge today arrested prominent Chipinge businessman, Edmore Mwoyongewenyu for allegedly severely assaulting a man he accused of having an extra marital affair with his teenage wife.
Mwoyongewenyu (42) of Low Density section of Chipinge and popularly known as Doda will appear in court tomorrow facing assault charges.
Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Nobert Muzondo confirmed the arrest.
“An assault report was made to the police by Shepherd Makwenjere of Gaza E Chipinge. Makwenjere was allegedly assaulted by Mwoyongewenyu and three other accomplices for allegedly having an affair with his 18-year-old wife. He sustained serious injuries,” said Inspector Muzondo.
Makwenjere is battling for life at Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital in Mutare where he was transferred to from Chipinge.
