POLICE in Manicaland will continue intensifying arrests of drug peddlers and at the same time holding drug and substance abuse awareness campaigns among youths.
Addressing stakeholders and church members during a workshop conducted by Johane the 5th of Africa Church at a local hotel, Police Community Relations Liaison Officer, Sergeant Violet January said: “The campaigns are aimed at strengthening cooperation of all stakeholders towards the achievement of a drug-free society as it is claiming lives of people with the potential of steering national development,” she said.
Speaking at the same event, Johane the 5th of Africa Church founder, Archbishop Andby Makururu called on the police and church to play a critical role in maintaining peace during the forthcoming harmonised elections.
“We should join hands and ensure we hold peaceful elections. Everyone should play a role in maintaining peace. We encourage the tightening of security between the church and the community before, during and after the harmonised elections this year,” he said.
