GOVERNMENT has chipped in to assist the families of the three victims who died on the spot after being hit by a speeding vehicle along the Christmas Pass-Shamu Road early this week.

 

Mutasa District Development Coordinator (DDC) Mr Tedius Beto said the Government assistance was channelled through the Department of Civil Protection (DCP).

 

“Through the Department of Civil Protection, Government has availed coffins and hearses from Doves for the burial of the three children who died in Penhalonga on Monday. The families have also been supported with maize grain,” he said.

 

A couple in the Toronto in Penhalonga lost its only two children – Silvian and Strive Maponde – in the accident.

 

The siblings died on the spot, dealing the couple a lethal blow.

 

Silvian (13) was doing Grade 6 at Augustine’s Primary School while his young brother Strive (9) was in Grade 2 at the same school.

 

The third victim, Blessing Chisari (9) was in Grade 2 at Beaule Primary School.

 

Another pupil was seriously injured in the accident and battling for his life at Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital.

 

The accident involved a speeding Toyota Fortuner that was being driven by a visibly drunk driver – John Dumbura.
