The Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency (ZimStat) will today roll out the household budget survey (HBS) whose findings will be used in national policy formulation and decision-making.

The survey, which covers about 34 536 sampled households in rural and urban areas across all provinces, ends on March 31.

“ZimStat will be undertaking the 2024/25 Household Budget Survey (HBS) from March 11 to March 31. The survey aims to collect data for estimating private consumption expenditure and disposable income of the household sector while also compiling the production account of the agricultural sector.

“It also seeks to study income or expenditure disparities among socio-economic groups and estimate the informal sector’s GDP contribution to GDP.

“By estimating the size of household transfer incomes within and outside the country, the survey will also calculate weights for the Consumer Price Index (CPI) and calculate the poverty datum line, poverty rate and inequality.

“The Household Budget Survey will be conducted under the provisions of the Census and Statistics Act [Chapter 10:29]. Information collected from the survey is strictly confidential and will be used solely for statistical purposes,” said ZimStat in a statement.

The agency said information that will be collected from the survey includes household characteristics, international migration, housing characteristics, education, employment, food and non-alcoholic beverages purchased and non-food expenditures.

ZimStat said their personnel will positively identify themselves during the exercise and urged all the sampled households to be cooperative.
