MEDECINS Sans Frontieres (MSF) has today opened the Baobab House Wellness Centre at Tongogara Refugee Camp in Chipinge.

The centre was opened amid pomp and fanfare, with Government officials and other stakeholders describing the centre as a response to the myriad of mental health challenges that affect residents at the camp.

Chipinge Rural District Council chief executive Officer, Mr Blessing Mamvosha said the centre served as a reminder of this year’s World Refugee Day theme: “Wherever, whenever, everyone has the right to seek safety.”

“This is the Tongogara we want. When we talk about safety, we talk about total safety which includes the state of the mind. We are walking the talk which is in sync with the 2022 World Refugee Day theme,” he said.

He said as a local authority they are happy with the Baobab House initiative.

“This is good in that it goes hand in glove with Government’s clarion call that no one should be left behind,” he said.

Baobab House has an office, a playing area and people would be involved in sporting activities such as chess, among others.
