POLICE in Manicaland are investigating a hit-and-run accident that occurred at the 188km peg along the Chivhu-Nyazura Road near Rukweza Business Centre on Sunday.

Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Nobert Muzondo confirmed the incident, saying an unknown male adult was hit by an unidentified vehicle and died on the spot after sustaining head injuries.

The driver did not stop at the scene after the accident, said Inspector Muzondo.

“We are investing an incident in which a male adult estimated to be aged between 40 and 45 was hit by a car that immediately fled from scene at the 188km peg along the Chivhu-Nyazura Road near Rukweza Business Centre on January 8 at around 6am. People in the area informed the police after coming across a dead body. Police attended the scene and the body was ferried to Rusape General Hospital for a post mortem.

“We are appealing to anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of the motorist to approach their nearest police station,” he said.

Inspector Muzondo urged motorists and pedestrians to exercise caution at all times on the road.

Police have expressed concern over hit-and-run incidents across the country and have since launched a manhunt for 20 motorists who were involved in such accidents before speeding from the scenes without rendering assistance to the pedestrians they ran over.
