AGRITEX officers and villagers in Mutasa District have been urged to desist from abusing Pfumvudza agricultural inputs.

Those caught offside will face the full wrath of the law.

Speaking during the launch of the Pfumvudza Agricultural Programme in Hauna this afternoon, Chief Director, Agricultural and Rural Development Advisory Services in the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development, Professor Obert Jiri, urged communities to fully utilise the land they possess and embark on farming activities in their numbers.

“We are happy that communities are exuding enthusiasm over the impending farming season. We are on a crusade, moving around every district and very ward preaching the gospel of utilising the land and be beneficiaries of the Pfumvudza Agricultural Programme. Every farmer should be serious, plough and harvest a surplus even in case of less rainfall. We don’t want excuses when it comes to Pfumvudza. To Agritex officers, we urge you to follow procedures and distribution modalities of the inputs. We will not tolerate the issue of abusing the inputs,” he said.

Several households were handed over various inputs such as fertilisers, insecticides and knapsacks.

The launch was held in Hamudikuwanda Village A where Mr Abisha Mutenha was the host farmer.

Mr Mutenha, who has been into farming for three years and owns a one-hectare farm, said: “We are grateful with this Pfumvudza Programme as our dreams to prosper as farmers are coming true. We are no longer starving as we can now make use of the land that we have through growing maize, bananas and other horticulture produce. Hunger is no longer an issue for me and my family as well as other households in this community. Agritex officers have also been very helpful.”
