SAKUBVA Stadium will play host to unpredictable Castle Lager Premiership side Bulawayo Chiefs on two occasions in a fortnight when they entertain Black Rhinos tomorrow (Saturday) before they return for a date against Manica Diamonds in a fortnight.
Bulawayo Chiefs’ two trips to Mutare football match venue in a short space of time comes as Sakubva Stadium continues to provide relentless top-flight league action, week-in week-out, to followers of the game in the eastern border city since its homologation.
Three Premiership teams – Manica Diamonds, Tenax C.S FC and Black Rhinos – are using Sakubva Stadium as their home ground.
Thus well known Mutare football administrator and a super fan of the game, Cecilia Gambe, said: “This is what we have always clamoured for. We now have something to look forward to every weekend and that is healthy.”
Gambe was quick to remind the custodians of the facility to do more work on refurbishing the stadium.
“We want to urge the local authority not to rest on its laurels and continue upgrading the match venue until it matches international standards. They need to work overtime to source partners to continue sprucing up Sakubva Stadium. We are talking about a decent VIP section and not just that shade we currently have.
“We are talking about bucket seats and not the hard surface we are currently using. We are talking about a tartan track for athletics and not the age old sand that we have. So it is clear that we are happy with the work they have done, but we are also mindful of much more work that needs to be done,” said the outspoken Mutare football and political personality.
