A 65-year-old Rusape woman who had a penchant of calling her neighbour a witch each time they had a quarrel has been arrested and brought before the courts to answer charges of indicating a witch.

Esther Dzveta of Silverbow appeared before Rusape magistrate Ms Patience Ururu-Madondo facing allegations of contravening section 99(1) of Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act Chapter 9.23 which criminalises labeling one a witch or wizard.

Dzveta who is out on bail is represented by Mr Tendai Bvuma of Bvuma and Associates and denies calling Marvelous Pangeti a witch instead she told the court it is Pangeti who accuse her of witchcraft by pointing at her with a broom which she said traditionally is a witchcraft accusation.

“On 16 January 2019 around 1830hrs the accused person who was in her field started shouting to the complainant who was in her yard accusing her of being a witch.

She further indicated that the complainant bewitched her since 2012 causing her to be always sick, said Mr Gift Mutigwa who is appearing in court.

Ms Madondo postponed the matter to today (Friday) for judgment.
