A RUSAPE woman who could not control her anger and scalded her neighbour with water, causing serious burns has been jailed for the offence.

Madeline Mazani (40) of Kaerasora Village under Chief Tandi’s area who was a self actor pleaded not guilty to assault when she appeared before magistrate, Ms Rufaro Mangwiro.

Mazani cited self defence as the reason for pouring hot water on Simbarashe Tandi’s face following an argument.

However, Ms Mangwiro found her guilty after a full trial and sentenced her to 14 months behind bars before suspending six months on condition of good behaviour.

She will effectively serve eight months in prison.

Prosecutor, Mr Innocent Mwoyowaonda said Mazani and Tandi had a misunderstanding on how roads were being rehabilitated in their village.

She then poured hot water on Tandi to silence him.

“On February 26, Tandi went to Mazanhi’s homestead to collect a cellphone charger. He was given his changer by a juvenile who resides at Mazani homestead. Tandi and Linos Chikanga started talking about road construction projects that were being done in their village.

“Mazanhi interrupted the conversation, provoking the complainant in the process. They exchanged harsh words. The accused person went into the kitchen and took a pot containing hot water from the fireplace and poured it on Tandi’s face.

“Tandi ran away for a short distance and returned to confront Mazanhi. Mazani grabbed a saw and hit Tandi on the left hand. Tandi sustained burns on the face, neck, left shoulder and bruises on the left wrist,” said Mr Mwoyowaonda.
