A 66-year-old Rusape woman was last weekend found dead while in her birthday suit in a suspected case of excessive alcohol intake.
According to fellow villagers, Gogo Mary Nyadzisai Geregere of Alpha Farm, just outside Rusape, had spent the previous day drinking an illicit brew at the local shops.
She was found dead the following morning, with only her undergarment and one shoe on.
The rest of her clothes were by her side, soaked in rain water.
Acting Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka confirmed the incident and said investigations are underway.
“Mary Nyadzisai Geregere was found dead near her homestead. On January 19, the now deceased was left in the company of three minor children by her daughter who was going to Rusape.
Around 6pm, her daughter returned home and found no one present.
“She later found her children in the company of a fellow villager who informed her that they had been left by their grandmother at the shops. The villager said she met the now deceased but she refused to go home, saying she wanted to continue drinking beer at the shops.
“She was found dead the following morning. She was naked and her clothes were near her body. Her body was conveyed to Rusape General Hospital for a post-mortem. Investigations are still underway,” said Assistant Inspector Chinyoka.
