In a rare occurrence, a Mutambara man has teamed up with his father to disown his mother who he claims is a burden to the family.

Rudo Mupfuti has since dragged her son, Wonder Nehwangura and her husband, Washington Nehwangura to Acting Chief Mutambara’s court in her quest to find peace.

Wonder admitted that he has disowned his mother and accused an avenging spirit of driving a wedge between them.

The spirit allegedly manifests through his mother.

“I am the one who is expected to meet all the costs to appease the avenging spirit, so the buck stops with me on deciding who should be associated with us. If my mother wants the avenging spirit to leave her, she should take up the matter with my grandmother’s family and not us.

“We are the victims here, our grandfather was allegedly killed and we should be the ones being appeased. As a family, we are done with her, she is a very big trouble causer and the avenging spirit that possesses her is terrorising us, hence we no longer recognise her as part of our family,” said Wonder.

Following hi outburst, Acting Chief Mutambara asked Mupfuti if Wonder is her biological son.

“At times I also wonder why my own biological son treats me like this. Maybe someone swapped my child soon after delivery,” she cried.

Narrating her ordeal, Mupfuti said her father-in-law’s avenging spirit is possessing her and demanding appeasement.

“I do not sleep and I no longer have any peace in my own home because my husband’s late father’s spirit is tormenting me and demanding appeasement. He claims that my late mother-in-law killed him through a love portion. My husband is aware of this. The same applies to my son, but they are not playing ball.

“It is my husband’s duty to engage his late mother’s relatives to facilitate the appeasement of the avenging spirit yet he is leaving me to carry this burden alone, even though he knows the person who allegedly killed his father.

“I was only married into this family and should not be tormented by the family’s misfortunes,” said Mupfuti.
Washington admitted that his mother had a hand in his father’s death.

He, however, insisted that Mupfuti should stop bothering them with the avenging spirit issue.

“I doubt that her weird behaviour is being influenced by the avenging spirit, she overdoes it. It is also suspicious because we are the victims in this matter, but it now appears as if we killed the family’s patriarch,” said Washington.

“Maybe when I married her she heard rumours that my mother killed my father and she is now playing mind games. I stand by what my son has said. We are the victims and our late father’s spirit should not torment us,” said Washington.

Acting Chief Mutambara adjourned the matter to tomorrow (Saturday).

He also castigated Wonder for ill-treating his mother both physically, emotionally and mentally.

“You should also stop ill-treating your mother. If anything happens to her, you will regret it. You should be on her side and avoid taking sides,” said Acting Chief Mutambara.

The matter will continue tomorrow to allow for the summoning of the alleged killer’s relatives.
