MUTASA Rural District Council yesterday (Thursday) handed over 29 motorcycles to councillors in a bid to improve service delivery.

The motorcycles were acquired recently and were distributed after the local authority received the nod to do so from the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works.

Speaking during a full council meeting at Sanyamandwe Hall, council chairperson, Councillor Panadotis Dombropolous, said: “The motorcycles will help to improve service delivery in wards. Councillors will now be able to reach all corners of their respective wards.”

Acting Mutasa District Development Coordinator, Ms Caroline Mudawariwo, said the request from councillors for a loan scheme from the local authority to buy the motorbikes was approved by the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works which saw the idea as a noble one as it spearheads development.
She urged councillors to use the motorcycles to facilitate development in their respective wards so that the country can achieve Vision 2030 of an upper middle class income economy.

“The Government considered the terrain of Mutasa District which hinders councillors to reach some areas and facilitated the acquisition of the motorcycles.

“As you get these motorcycles from Mutasa RDC, let it be seen on the ground the developmental work that is taking place in your wards,” she said.

Ward 21 councillor, Mrs Njazi Sabuneti said she was grateful to the Government for helping the councillors acquire the motorcycles which will make their work easy.
