MUTARE has been experiencing water shortages for the past three days owing to emergency repairs being carried out on the treatment plant at Odzani waterworks by the City Council.

This has resulted in disruption of supply in most parts of the city.

The city council today issued a statement updating on the situation.

“Notice is hereby given to all residents and stakeholders of Mutare that repair works at the Odzani waterworks are still ongoing. As a result, the water levels in our reservoirs have reached critically low levels,” reads the statement.

The local authority said in order to avoid drawing of dirty water, they will now shut off supplies to many areas.

Normal water supply is expected to be restored by Thursday.

“Our water engineering team is working round the clock to complete the repairs and we anticipate normal water supply to be restored by Thursday since it takes two to four days to fill up the Christmas Pass balancing tanks depending on the turbidity of the Pungwe River water,” adds the statement.
