MUTARE Polytechnic student, Faith Chirombe, has scored a first for the college and Manicaland after being elected Zimbabwe Congress of Student Union vice-president.

Chirombe who is studying towards a National Diploma in Electrical Power was elected into the influential post in Marondera recently to become the first student in Manicaland to hold such a post.

Despite the challenges associated with her high demanding course, Chirombe has remained resolute and out of 10 students in their class, only two of them including Chirombe are women.

“I feel so honoured and humbled to be elected into ZICOSU’s presidium. It is an achievement not only for myself, but Mutare Poly and Manicaland at large. The province now has a voice in the national leadership of the student union and I will use that position to champion for the cause of students from Manicaland colleges.

“I will continue to raise the flag of Manicaland high and ensure that the welfare of students from this great province is catered for. The girl child should believe in herself. Nothing is impossible with determination. The girl child should not allow other people to pull her down. They should remain resolute and fight for their place in the leadership hierarchy. We need to he heard and people can only hear you if you shout out,” she said.

Chirombe is not new to leadership positions as she was a prefect during her high school days.

She was at one time Mutare Polytechnic Student Representative Council’s secretary general before being elected ZICOSU’s secretary for legal affairs.

She is a holder of a certificate in leadership from the Sally Dura Institute of Leadership.
