CITY of Mutare today begins the cleaning of water distribution reservoirs that will be spread across five different locations over the next two weeks.

In a notice to the public, the local authority said the exercise is meant to clear the sludge that has accumulated in some of the tanks and ensure supply of clean and safe water.

Reads the notice: “Nyakamete reservoir which supplies the industrial area, Beira Corridor, Natvest and areas around Mutare Teachers’ College will be cleaned on August 1 and 2, while the Sakubva large and small reservoirs which supply the whole of Sakubva will be cleaned on August 3 and 4.

“Cleaning of the Chikanga reservoir which supplies Chikanga 1, St Joseph’s and Dream House will be done on August 8 and 9 and the Fern Valley Reservoir which supplies Fern Valley gets cleaned on August 10 and 11. The Dangamvura Area 3 reservoir which supplies Area 3 will be cleaned on August 12 and 13.”

Cleaning of the water distribution reservoirs will take place in the above order, said City of Mutare.

The exercise, added the local authority, will interrupt water supply in the affected areas and residents may receive water with a brownish colour soon after supply is restored.
