THE Birchenough Bridge man who recently axed and burnt his three children, leaving two of them dead was arrested last Friday in Durban, South Africa.
Fashion Mupakati (42) who also burnt the family’s household property was arrested following a tip-off to the police by a relative in the neighbouring country.
Deputy Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Luxson Chananda, confirmed Mupakati’s arrest.
“Mupakati who allegedly murdered his two children and seriously injured another one was arrested on July 7 in Durban, South Africa.”
“He was arrested after a tip-off to the police by one of his relatives who reside in that country. We have since ascertained his identity,” said Asst Insp Chananda.
He said police were working on Mupakati’s repatriation.
An ex-convict, Mupakati, committed the offence barely two months
after being released from prison on similar murder charges. He had served one year, eight months for murdering his girlfriend.
Mupakati murdered his two children, Trinity (Five) and Trish (Eight) in cold blood, before setting household furniture on fire.
Tanaka (12), who survived the gruesome attack with two deep head cuts, is recovering at Mutare Provincial Hospital.
Soon after committing the heinous crime, Mupakati sent a text message to his wife, saying they could locate him at a nearby mountain.
A search in the mountain and surrounding areas yielded nothing.
