THE Ministry of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises has embarked on a drive to empower rural women with business skills to start and manage profitable projects.

Women in Ward 11 in Chipinge are undergoing training on Internal Savings and Lending (ISAL), popularly known as mukando, from the ministry in conjunction with the Chipinge Business and Residents Trust (CBRET).

The objective of the programme is to enhance the beneficiaries’ livelihoods.

The ministry’s community development coordinator, Mrs Sipiwe Duri, said the initiative will go a long way in helping keeping the savings and lending programme afloat.

“We were approached by CBRET to empower the women in the communities by training them on how to start and manage business projects.

“We are equipping the women with skills on how to manage their capital and resources as well as interpreting financial records so that their enterprises remain viable and sustainable,” she said.

CBRET chairperson, Mr Lincoln Mwaimbodeyi said the programme is also aimed at cultivating a culture of self-reliance among women.
