MOUNT Selinda headmaster, Reverend Watson Bundwa, has been demoted, The Manica Post has learnt.

He was posted to be deputy headmaster at Rimbi High School from Wednesday, March 1, 2017.

The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education finally released its verdict after numerous charges were laid against the erstwhile head who battled United Church of Christ in Zimbabwe for close to four years when he was at the helm of “Chinyuka” the torch bearer of UCCZ.

Impeccable sources who wanted to remain anonymous told this publication that Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education officials descended upon the school on Monday and delivered the message to SDC members, deputy head, Reverend Kuchera and Mugobo who were there as Responsible Authority representatives.

‘’We are relieved at least. Freedom has returned to the entire church. We have retained our respect as a church. Hitherto, we were nothing in the eyes of the public. You can imagine how excited we are to be back home,’’ a senior UCCZ member who refused to be identified confided with The Manica Post.

A litany of charges was brought against Rev Bundwa.

Ashirai Mtirikwi Mawere, the new SDC chairperson, said life goes on even with the demotion of Rev Watson Bundwa.

‘’The success of any organisation is on its ability to adapt to change and this school, I assure you, is not built on one individual. The Reverend is gone and I wish him success on his new endeavours. I thank him for the good job he did for the school. However, it’s business as usual here. He had his turn and this time, another person calls the shots.

We didn’t bring kids to Mt Selinda because of one individual. We have to focus on the future and support unstintingly whoever is given the reigns of the school,’’ the SDC chairperson said.

Mr Mhlanga, a parent, said Reverend Bundwa saw it coming.

‘’He knew he was on his way out, but it is incumbent upon us as parents to applaud him for having done some good work for the school notwithstanding his bellicose nature towards the church,’’ he said.

Mr Zwokuzwa Mlambo is the acting headmaster.
