An Odzi woman has approached the courts to seek recourse as she accuses her husband’s five siblings of ganging up against her whenever she argues with their brother.

Sharon Nyamutamba appeared before Mutare magistrate, Mr Lazarus Murendo, as she was seeking a protection against her husband’s brothers and sisters — Amina, Ndanatswa, Letwin, Emily and Fadzai Skero.

She begged the court to bar the five from visiting her homestead and interfering in her marital disputes. Nyamutamba said her once blissful marriage is now a bed of thorns ever since her in-laws started poking their noses into her family’s affairs.

“I have known no peace since I married into the Skero family some years ago. My husband is a peace loving man but his siblings are trying to influence him to chuck me out. They do not want me to be part of their family. All five of them always gang up against me.

“They have their own families but they always find time to interfere in our issues. When we fight, my husband sends text messages to them and within minutes they will be at my doorstep baying for my blood. They always threaten to kick me out,” she said.

Nyamutamba went further to reveal that she is now contemplating quitting the marriage as she can no longer endure the siblings’ abuse.

“I am so glad that my husband finally allowed me to make this court application. I wanted to do this a long time ago but he was against it. In fact, he would assault me whenever I attempted to come to court,” she said, adding that her husband is overprotective of his siblings.

The Skero siblings told the court that they were not against the protection order application.

They said they want peace in their family, adding that they have only been intervening in an effort to stop the couple’s countless fights.

“She usually starts her fights with our brother and we are obliged to stop them because we care for him. We do not team up against her, we just try and stop the fights,” said Fadzai.

Mr Murendo granted the protection order in Nyamutamba’s favour. The order bars the quintet from visiting, assaulting and insulting her.
