HARDLY a week after being crowned Miss Culture Zimbabwe in Harare, Mutare model, Tanaka Dumbura, wrote another piece of history when she was crowned Second Princess for the Miss Petite Global International pageant held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, last week on Friday.

Dumbura, who was the only African in the pageant, also won the Miss Popular award at the same ceremony which saw a bevy of beauties drawn from India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippine, Cambodia and West India participating.

Dumbura strut her stuff on the ramp in the national costume, evening wear, sportswear and cocktail categories.

In the Question and Answer segment, adjudicators asked Dumbura if it is necessary for Government to continue updating its people on Covid-19 cases.

In her response, the beauty queen said she strongly believes that constant updates and being cautious will go a long way in preventing the spread of the virus.

Miss Petite and Mister Petite Global are beauty pageants that celebrate men and women and empowers them to discover their potential through experiences that build self-confidence.

In an interview early this week, Dumbura said she is excited after making history in the beauty pageant, which is extremely competitive.

“I am extremely excited. The event was very competitive and the environment was electrifying. Although I feel I could have done better, I am grateful that I managed to be among the winners.

“The fact that I was the only African who was at the pageant means a lot to me. It was a learning curve and I am proud to come back home with a lot of lessons. When one attends such prestigious events, there are always lessons to be learnt, especially in terms of languages, dressing, food, love and peace. Their cultural etiquette is very inspiring,” she said.

“I am now preparing for the Miss Culture International which will be held in September. I know it will not be easy but I have started preparing for the contest since it is happening next month.”
