The National Social Security Authority (NSSA) is this year set to roll out mobile clinics for pensioners across the country, it has been established.
Speaking during an engagement meeting with pensioners last week in Chipinge, NSSA general manager, Mr Arthur Manase said the mobile clinics programme seeks to ensure that pensioners have access to medical facilities.
Mr Manase said NSSA will also engage pharmacies so that the elderly will get discounts when purchasing medicines.
“NSSA will roll out mobile clinics for pensioners across the country. These mobile clinics will be manned by fully qualified health personnel. The clinics will offer a wide range of services.
“The initiative will cover all parts of the country. In addition to that, we will also set up a staff clinic as well as NSSA associated pharmacies, particularly targeting pensioners. There shall be pharmacies which offer cheaper medicines to the elderly members of the community. All these will be established this year,” he said.
Mr Manase said NSSA will also roll out goat projects for pensioners.
“The goat project is coming in two forms. The first one is household based where we identify a group of pensioners and give them some goats to rear.
“NSSA is going to breed the goats at a large scale in Kwekwe. We will transport the goats to different parts of the country and distribute them among pensioners.
“The organisation will source for competitive markets for the goats so that the pensioners realize profits from the projects,” said Mr Manase.
Chairperson for Chipinge Pensioners Chapter, Mr Lovemore Huni welcomed the development and called for speedy implementation.
“The development is welcome and we hope it will be launched soon. We hope the welfare of the pensioners who were neglected for a long time will improved,” said Mr Huni.
